On Sunday night, a fierce cyclone, Remal, hit West Bengal, with wind speeds reaching up to 74 kilometers per hour in Kolkata. As a result of Remal, heavy rainfall occurred in Kolkata, Howrah, and Hooghly, leading to flooding in many areas.

Indian media reports that due to the strong storm and heavy rainfall, houses and plantations were destroyed in Kolkata. Disaster response teams began clearing the roads and undertaking rescue efforts.

The Alipore weather office announced that West Bengal would continue to experience heavy rainfall due to Remal's impact. Nearby rivers and Murshidabad could also witness heavy rainfall. Alerts have been issued for Malda and South Dinajpur until Wednesday.

In Tripura, precautionary measures have been put in place due to Remal. Several flights have been canceled. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured state governments of all possible assistance.

On the other hand, Remal began crossing over from Bangladesh on Saturday night, affecting various regions with heavy rains and strong winds; the capital was spared. From midnight, intermittent rain and strong winds have been observed.

The powerful cyclone Remal is gradually moving towards the north, crossing over the Upakul area of Bangladesh towards different parts of the country, along with heavy rains and gusty winds. It has not affected the capital of Bangladesh. It is expected to weaken as it moves further north-west towards West Bengal and Patuakhali's Khepupara.
