Will a Wife Inherit from Her Deceased Husband Elsewhere?
According to Islamic law, both women and men are entitled to inherit from their close relatives as described in the Quran. The Holy Quran states, "To each, We prescribed shares of inheritance that they may inherit a portion of the deceased's property from their parents and near relatives, whether the inheritance be small or large—an ordained share" (Surah An-Nisa, Ayah: 7).
Allah has emphasized this designated share so that everyone receives their due rightfully.
Some misconceptions arise that a wife forfeits her deceased husband's inheritance if she remarries elsewhere. This notion is entirely ignorant! A wife is entitled to inherit from her deceased husband as long as she is alive during his passing. Whether she remarries or not has no bearing on her right to inheritance.
Therefore, preventing a woman from inheritance would constitute a major sin. It not only denies her rightful property but also distorts Sharia law.
In our country, the practice of denying remarriage to widows after their husband's death is an ignorant rule. It has now worsened with the greater injustice of depriving inheritance due to remarriage.
Remember, those who have widows under their care should prioritize arranging their remarriage as their foremost responsibility, assuming there are no legal impediments (social stigma is never a legal impediment). This will not only bring various benefits but also earn rewards for following the Sunnah of maintaining the living standards of widows.
