The first 10 days of Zilhajj
In the Islamic lunar calendar, Zilhajj is one of the four sacred months out of the twelve. The first ten days of Zilhajj hold special significance. It is recommended to engage in various acts of worship during these days. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that the worship during these ten days is more beloved to Allah than the worship on any other days. Fasting during the first nine days and engaging in worship and devotion at night are specifically emphasized.
On the 9th of Zilhajj, known as the Day of Arafah, pilgrims gather at the Arafat plain from Mina. This day is of immense importance in Hajj, and fasting on this day holds great reward. The Prophet mentioned that fasting on the Day of Arafah expiates the sins of the previous and upcoming year.
Moreover, the Day of Arafah is considered one of the best days in the sight of Allah. It is a day when Allah takes an oath in the Quran. It is a day of immense mercy and forgiveness.
On the 9th of Zilhajj, from Fajr until Asr prayer on the 13th, it is recommended to say the Takbeer once after each obligatory prayer. Additionally, it is obligatory for those who possess the financial capability to offer a Qurbani (sacrifice) on the 10th, 11th, or 12th of Zilhajj.
In summary, the first ten days of Zilhajj are a time for increased devotion and worship, culminating in the powerful Day of Arafah. Fasting, prayers, and acts of charity are highly recommended during this sacred period.
