This time Sheikh Maher Al-Muaiqili will deliver the sermon of Hajj.
Dr. Maher Al-Muaiqili, the Imam and Khateeb of Masjid al-Haram in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, will deliver the sermon of Hajj during this year's Hajj season. He will deliver the sermon of Hajj from Namira at Arafat. Sheikh Maher Al-Muaiqili is known for his straightforward language and quoting from the life of the Prophet (PBUH) in his sermons on various topics.
According to a verified Facebook page named 'Insight The Haramain' based on Masjid al-Haram, it has been announced that the authorities of the Haramain have appointed Dr. Maher Al-Muaiqili to deliver the sermon of Hajj this year.
Recently, Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz has approved him to deliver the sermon on the great day of Arafat. In the last Hajj season, the sermon was delivered by Sheikh Dr. Yousuf bin Muhammad bin Said, a member of the Senior Ulama Council of Saudi Arabia, and Sheikh Maher Al-Muaiqili assisted in delivering the sermon.
If for any reason Sheikh Dr. Yousuf bin Muhammad bin Said is unable to give the sermon, the responsibility would fall on Sheikh Maher Al-Muaiqili.
On the 9th of Dhul-Hijjah, the main sermon of Hajj will be delivered in Arabic from Namira at the mosque. Live translations will be broadcasted on the official Saudi government website. This year, like every year, the sermon of Hajj will be translated into a total of 14 languages including English, French, Malay, Urdu, Farsi, Russian, Chinese, Turkish, Hausa, Spanish, Hindi, Tamil, and Swahili.
The historic sermon delivered by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) known as the Farewell Sermon will be delivered at Namira in Arafat on the Day of Arafat. In that sermon, he gave teachings of Islam, human rights, women's rights, and various social pronouncements.
It is noteworthy that for the past 35 years since 1981, the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah Al-Asheikh, has been delivering the sermon of Hajj. In 2016, due to old age reasons, he retired.
Since then, every year, the Saudi authorities have been appointing new Khateebs. According to informed scholars, the Saudi King appoints these Khateebs based on their opinions. In this regard, this year Dr. Maher bin Hamad Al-Muaiqili will lead the sermon of Hajj. Last year, the sermon was delivered by Sheikh Dr. Yousuf bin Muhammed bin Said.
