Dua to be Recited upon Seeing the New Moon
Dua to be Recited upon Seeing the New Moon
Today is the 29th of Zilqad in Bangladesh. Today, everyone in Bangladesh will look for the moon of Zilhajj. If the moon is sighted today, Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated on Monday, 17th June, inshaAllah. It is a Sunnah to recite a dua upon sighting the new moon.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) used to recite the following dua upon sighting the new moon of any Arabic month:
Transliteration: Allahumma ahillahu 'alayna bil amni wal i'mani, was salaamati wal islaam. Rabbi wa RabbukAllah.
Meaning: O Allah, let this moon rise upon us with security and faith, with safety and Islam. My Lord and your Lord is Allah. (Tirmidhi 3451)
In the Sunan of Darimi, Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates the dua in the following manner:
Transliteration: Allahu Akbar. Allahumma ahillahu 'alayna bil amni wal i'mani, was salaamati wal islaam, wat tawfiq lima yuhibbu Rabbuna wa yarzaa. Rabbi wa RabbukAllah.
Meaning: Allah is the Greatest. O Allah, let this moon rise upon us with security and faith, with safety and Islam, and with success in what our Lord loves and is pleased with. Our Lord and your Lord is Allah. (Sunan Darimi 1724)
Following the footsteps of the Prophet (peace be upon him), we can recite any of these duas upon sighting the new moon of Zilhajj.
