Joint military exercise in South China Sea involving 4 countries
A two-day joint military exercise involving the navies of the United States, Canada, Japan, and the Philippines has been conducted in the South China Sea. The exercise took place in a special economic zone of the Philippines in the South China Sea.
This was reported on the website of the Pacific Naval Command of the United States on Monday. It stated that this exercise was organized as part of cooperative efforts to ensure unhindered maritime navigation and collaborative operations on the ocean route.
Through this exercise, the commitment of these four countries to regional security and stability was reaffirmed strongly. Four warships participated in the exercise, conducting various types of maneuvers to enhance coordination among their armed forces.
Earlier in April, the Philippines participated in a joint naval exercise with Japan, Australia, and the United States amid escalating aggressive actions by China in the South China Sea, which Manila perceives as a threat.
China claims sovereignty over almost the entire South China Sea strategically. This claim has been contested by the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia, Taiwan, and Vietnam. This sea route sees transportation of goods worth three trillion dollars annually
