Change names Dutch hero Vehorst with victory

The Netherlands started their Euro mission with a 2-1 win over Poland. Despite initially falling behind against Lewandowski-less Poland, they managed to equalize and then seal the win with a decisive goal from Wout Weghorst.

In a Group D match on Wednesday (June 16), the Dutch faced Poland and suffered a 2-1 defeat. The match saw the Dutch dominate possession with 67%, taking 21 shots, of which only 4 were on target. On the other hand, Poland took 12 shots and managed to score 7 goals.

The Netherlands had an aggressive start from the beginning of the match. Cody Gakpo and Memphis Depay repeatedly penetrated Poland's defense but failed to convert chances into goals. Poland, on the other hand, scored their opening goal in the 16th minute through Piotr Zielinski's header, taking advantage of an opportunity instead of Lewandowski.

Despite falling behind, the Dutch continued to press forward. However, Frank de Boer's team squandered easy opportunities, with Frenkie de Jong failing to find the net. As the game progressed slowly towards a draw, Depay was substituted in the 81st minute for Weghorst. Within two minutes of stepping onto the field, Weghorst scored the winning goal. He received the ball in the box and netted with a left-footed shot, securing the victory for his team.
