Three European countries will recognize Palestine
Norway, Ireland, and Spain have announced that they will officially recognize the state of Palestine. Following this announcement, Israel has summoned the ambassadors of those countries. The news was reported by AFP.
The Prime Minister of Ireland stated that his country will recognize Palestine, but did not specify a specific timeline for this decision. On the other hand, the Prime Ministers of Norway and Spain announced that they will give this recognition on the upcoming 28th of May.
The Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre, made this announcement in the capital Oslo. The Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, announced this in Madrid, and the Prime Minister of Ireland, Simon Harris, announced this in Dublin.
In an immediate reaction, Israel has summoned the ambassadors of Ireland, Norway, and Spain for "urgent discussions."
Israel's Foreign Minister, Yair Lapid, said in a statement, "I want to give a sharp message to Ireland and Norway that after this incident, Israel will not sit quietly." He also mentioned similar plans for the Spanish ambassador after making the same kind of remarks.
Israel's Foreign Ministry communicated through social media that granting recognition to the state of Palestine implies giving the reins into the hands of Iran and Hamas. Such a step will only encourage extremism and instability.
