The Chief of Army Staff, General Aziz Ahmed

expressed strong condemnation over the recent report by the German-based media outlet, Deutsche Welle, regarding the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Bangladesh. He mentioned this during a ceremony at the Gazipur cantonment on Monday (May 27th).

General Aziz Ahmed mentioned that the Bangladesh Armed Forces have never violated human rights. He strongly criticized the sensational nature of Deutsche Welle's report.

He emphasized that Bangladesh, with utmost patriotism and professionalism, fulfills its responsibilities within the United Nations framework, and will respond properly to all baseless allegations.

Recently, Deutsche Welle broadcasted an infographic related to the deployment of Bangladeshi troops in the UN peacekeeping force. There were purposeful questions raised about the deployment of Bangladeshi troops within the peacekeeping mission. In response to this, the army headquarters issued a statement, sent through the ISPR, stating that the infographic by Deutsche Welle is biased and one-sided. The report's intentions and goals were questioned in the statement. It was also mentioned that Deutsche Welle did not take any statements from the Bangladesh Armed Forces while creating the infographic.

The army headquarters stated that Deutsche Welle's infographic has misused footage of the Bangladeshi Armed Forces out of context in order to discredit another disciplined peacekeeping force. This is a malicious act that has damaged the documentary's credibility and acceptability. Bangladesh's Armed Forces strictly adhere to the United Nations' rigorous selection and verification process in peacekeeping missions, ensuring the selection of the most capable and skilled personnel.

According to the information, in fulfilling their duties within the UN peacekeeping mission, 131 Bangladeshi heroic soldiers have made the highest sacrifice, and 239 have been injured.

As per the statement from the army headquarters, the peacekeepers of the Bangladesh Armed Forces are free from allegations of human rights violations, which is a significant achievement.
