The students of Denmark's university have achieved visible success by protesting against Israel.
They demanded to sever economic and institutional ties with Israel. Now, the University of Copenhagen has announced that they will stop investing in companies doing business on occupied territories on the West Bank. The students at the university have begun a protest campaign in response to Israel's military campaign in Gaza in May. Students from many countries, including the United States, are protesting against Israel's attacks on Palestinians. According to statistics provided by Israel, on that day, Hamas killed 1,200 people and took 250 people hostage. Israel has reportedly killed around 36,000 Palestinians since the start of the campaign.
The students at the University of Copenhagen had been demanding that their university cut academic ties with Israel. They also raised concerns about investments from companies operating in areas under Israeli control and demanded divestment from such companies.
The Palestinian territories in the West Bank are currently under Israeli control. In a post on social media, the University of Copenhagen announced that they would divest 1,481,810 Danish crowns equivalent to $145,810 in three companies - Airbnb, Booking.com, and Idemia.
The university mentioned that they would work with fund managers for the administration of their investments. It was also stated that companies operating in illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank are listed by the United Nations, and the university will ensure compliance with this list.
This university in Denmark earns one billion Danish crowns in revenue annually. A portion of this money is invested in various bonds and equities.
