Dhaka has secured the second position in the list of the most expensive cities in South Asia. Mumbai in India holds the top spot.

Recently published in Mercer's "Cost of Living Survey 2024," an economic service provider based in New York, this information has been revealed.

Mercer publishes an annual list of the most expensive cities in the world for expatriates. According to this year's list, Hong Kong has topped the global list of expensive cities. Other expensive cities in the world include Singapore, Zurich and Geneva in Switzerland, Basel and Bern, New York in the United States, London in the United Kingdom, Nassau in the Bahamas, and Los Angeles in the United States.

In this year's list published by Mercer, Mumbai in India ranks 136th, which is the highest among South Asian countries. Dhaka has secured the 140th position on the list, making it the second most expensive city in South Asia.

Additionally, several other cities in India have made it to this year's list. Delhi ranks 165th, Chennai 189th, Bangalore 195th, Hyderabad 202nd, Pune 205th, and Kolkata 207th.

According to CNN, Mercer, the American financial services company, has prepared this list by considering at least 200 items, including transportation, food, clothing, household goods, and entertainment expenditures
