10 Memorandums of Understanding Are a New Version of Subjugation: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has alleged that none of Bangladesh's interests were protected in the 10 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) signed with India.
During a press conference held at the BNP Chairperson's office in Gulshan on Sunday, June 30, Fakhrul made these accusations.
Fakhrul stated that the 10 MoUs signed during the Indian visit of a government without a public mandate are essentially a new version of subjugation. He claimed that the ruling party has jeopardized the country's independence and sovereignty, trapping Bangladesh in a web of subservience to India.
He asserted that Bangladesh gained nothing from the agreements made during the Indian visit. According to him, the agreements were primarily made to express the gratitude of the head of the government. He warned that the agreements, disguised as MoUs, could pose a threat to national security.
The BNP Secretary General further stated that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has lost the minimum negotiating power with India. He accused India of interfering not only in Bangladesh's internal politics but also in various developmental activities, which endangers the country's independence and sovereignty.
Mirza Fakhrul argued that the government made these agreements solely to remain in power. He claimed that Sheikh Hasina's visit to India resulted in one-sided agreements rather than bilateral ones, undermining independence and sovereignty. Fakhrul announced that the BNP rejects all agreements made with India under the current circumstances
