Modi Assigns Portfolios in New Cabinet
Since taking oath as the new members of the Cabinet along with Narendra Modi, discussions have been ongoing about who will be assigned to which ministry. On Monday (June 10), the allocation of ministries has begun from the first meeting of Modi's new Cabinet. While some ministers are retaining their previous portfolios, there are also some surprises.
According to Indian media NDTV, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Cabinet is retaining prominent faces across four major ministries in his historic third term.
Amit Shah will continue to oversee the Home Ministry, Rajnath Singh will remain in charge of Defense, S. Jaishankar will handle the External Affairs and Finance Ministries under Nirmala Sitharaman. Nitin Gadkari will retain the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, with Ajay Tamta and Harsh Malhotra as deputies.
Manohar Lal Khattar will manage two crucial ministries, Power and Urban Development, with support from junior minister Sriprad Naik for the former and Chhattisgarh's first-time elected minister Tokhan Sahu for the latter.
Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan will take over the Agriculture Ministry. Additionally, CR Patil and Bhupendra Yadav will be responsible for the Ministry of Jal Shakti and Environment respectively.
Former Chief Minister of Bihar and JDU leader Jitan Ram Manjhi will helm the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, with Shobha Karandlaje serving as a minister of state.
Moreover, Ashwini Vaishnaw will be in charge of the Railways, and the Ministry of Civil Aviation will be handled by Ram Mohan Naidu, a first-time minister from TDP. He is also one of the least experienced ministers in Modi's new Cabinet.
The responsibilities of the Sports and Food Processing Ministries have been assigned to LJP Chief Chirag Paswan.
