Nepali batters' 'helpless surrender' in the World Cup return match
After 10 years, Nepal has returned to the T20 World Cup. The Nepali spectators were disappointed as the Nepali batters faltered in the World Cup return match. Despite having a home-like environment on the field, the Nepali batters failed to impress against the Dutch team's excellent bowling.
On Tuesday (June 4th), Nepal faced the Netherlands in their first match of the World Cup. At the end of the first innings, Rohit Paudel's team was all out for 106 runs.
Every bowler of the Dutch team bowled exceptionally well. Left-arm spinner Tim Pringle took a total of 3 wickets, and pacer Logan van Beek also took 3 wickets. Both Pol van Meekeren and Bas de Leede took two wickets each.
Nepal's start to batting after losing the toss was not good at all. Asif Sheikh was out in the second over of the innings after scoring 4 runs. Pringle took the first wicket for the Dutch team. Bowling in the fourth over, Logan van Beek dismissed Kushal Bhurtel, who faced his first ball.
After losing wickets quickly, captain Paudel and Anil Shah tried to bring Nepal back into the match. They formed a partnership of 25 runs for the third wicket. Their partnership was the highest in the entire Nepali innings. Pringle dismissed Anil after scoring 11 runs.
After Anil's departure, Nepal continued to lose wickets at one end. Kushal Malla, Dipendra Singh Airee, and Sompal Kami could not stay long at the crease. Meanwhile, Paudel was fighting on one end. He also fell to a catch off Pringle's spell. Paudel scored 35 runs off 37 balls. With Karan KC scoring 17 runs off 12 balls towards the end, Nepal managed to reach 100 runs with some struggle.
