Hamza Applies for Bangladeshi Passport

Hamza Dewan Choudhury has applied for a Bangladeshi passport. If all goes well, the Leicester City footballer will receive his Bangladeshi passport within a month. However, he will need to complete some additional procedures before he can play for Bangladesh.

The Football Federation has been working since the beginning of the year to have Hamza Choudhury play for the Bangladesh national football team. A couple of months ago, they provided him with a birth certificate through the necessary procedures. Now, the Leicester City footballer is set to receive the red and green passport.

In mid-May, Hamza encountered some complications while applying for a Bangladeshi passport. Those issues have now been resolved. He has applied for the passport at the Bangladesh Embassy in England, following all required procedures. The Football Federation (BFF) expects it will take about a month for Hamza to receive his passport after completing the necessary processes.

BFF General Secretary Tushar said, "Hamza has submitted his application at the Bangladesh High Commission in London. The process has begun. We have applied for his dual citizenship, and the application will be sent to the passport office, then to the SB (Special Branch) for verification. Once the SB report is sent back to the passport office, the process will be completed in Bangladesh. However, we cannot collect the passport from Bangladesh; it will be sent back to the Bangladesh Embassy in London. This entire process will take about a month."

Even if Hamza Choudhury receives his Bangladeshi passport by July, he will not be able to play immediately. To play for Bangladesh, the BFF must apply to the FIFA Players' Status Committee. Once this process is complete, there will be no obstacles for the English footballer to wear the Bangladesh jersey during the September window, according to the BFF.

Hamza Choudhury, who has played for the England U-21 team, currently plays for English club Leicester City. He is in excellent form this season, having helped the team get promoted from the Championship League to the Premier League.
