According to the final results for the 543 Lok Sabha seats announced on Tuesday, the ruling BJP won 240 seats, and the main opposition party, Congress, secured 99 seats. To achieve a majority in the Lok Sabha, a party or coalition needs 272 seats. No single party obtained enough seats to form a government independently.
However, the announced results show that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has a total of 293 seats, while the Congress-led India coalition has 233 seats. Given that the NDA has reached the required majority, it will form the government. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a speech on Tuesday, also announced that he would take office for the third time.
