Notice issued to Nixon Chowdhury to show cause

 A notice has been issued to show cause to Mujibur Rahman Nixon Chowdhury, the Member of Parliament for the Faridpur-4 constituency, for allegations of violation of conduct in the Upazila elections. The notice was issued on Monday (May 27) from the Faridpur District Election Office, signed by the Additional District Election Officer and Returning Officer Mr. Ziaul Haq Khan.

The show-cause notice, signed by the Returning Officer of the Upazila Parishad Election 2024, states that campaigning for rival candidates has begun in anticipation of the 6th Upazila Parishad Election 2024 (3rd phase). You, Mr. Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury, an Honorable Member of Parliament (214 Faridpur-4), have been accused of publicizing an audio/video clip of a speech on WhatsApp against Mr. Md. Shahidul Islam 'Anaras', a candidate for Chairman in the Sadarpur Upazila Parishad Election, and various aspects of this matter have also been publicized in various media. In addition, Mr. Md. Moklesur Rahman 'Horse', a competing candidate for the Chairmanship in the Vanga Upazila Parishad Election 2024, has filed a complaint against you for violation of electoral conduct.

As per the provision 2(14) of the Upazila Parishad (Election Conduct) Regulations, 2016, you are classified as a 'Very Important Person Enjoying Government Facilities'. It is worth mentioning that according to the provision 22(10 and 2) of the same regulations, a 'Very Important Person Enjoying Government Facility' shall not participate in any campaigning or electoral activity during the pre-election period. 

It is found from the provision 22(10 and 2) and provision 18 of the Upazila Parishad (Election Conduct) Regulations, 2016 and other relevant documents that the conduct rules were violated by you as perceived by the undersigned. 

In this situation, as a 'Very Important Person Enjoying Government Facilities', you are requested to provide a specific written explanation as to why you have violated the election conduct rules, within 4 pm on the forthcoming 28th May 2024 to the undersigned / Upazila Election Officer, Vanga-Sadarpur and assistant returning officer. Otherwise, the Honorable Election Commission will be informed about this matter against you.
