Due to the influence of Cyclone Rimli, heavy rainfall is occurring throughout the country, including the capital. The weather office has indicated that this weather is likely to continue unabated tomorrow (May 28) and rain and storms are expected. 

According to the weather department, heavy to very heavy rainfall could continue unabated throughout all districts of the Chittagong division on Monday night (May 27). Especially in the districts of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Rangamati, Bandarban, and Khagrachhari, widespread rain and intense thunderstorms could persist from Monday night onwards.

Heavy rainfall is expected to persist in four districts of the Sylhet division overnight. In the next 48 hours, a rainfall of 300 to 500 millimeters is expected in various districts of the Sylhet division. Weather office has expressed concerns of more than 1000 millimeters of rainfall in the Cherapunji area of Meghalaya state in India. There are strong concerns about landslides in the hilly areas of the rivers in the Sylhet division starting from Tuesday.

The weather office has indicated the possibility of heavy rainfall in Sherpur and Netrokona districts of the Mymensingh division. It is expected to continue until Wednesday morning. Consequently, there are strong concerns about landslides in the hilly rivers in the Mymensingh division.

Furthermore, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, and Sylhet divisions on Tuesday. However, precipitation levels could decrease in Khulna, Barisal, and Chittagong divisions. It is expected to rain heavily in Dhaka throughout Tuesday.

From Tuesday morning until 4 p.m., a record of 125 millimeters of precipitation was recorded in Dhaka. The weather office says that this is the highest rainfall during the current season in Dhaka. And this heavy rainfall is expected to continue until midnight.

At a briefing on Monday evening, Mr. Shamim Ahsan, the deputy director of the weather department's cyclone warning center, revealed that after hitting the coast, the cyclone has lost its strength and transformed into a depression. A part of this depression is currently located over central and northern regions of the country, including Dhaka. The cyclone is expected to move over Sylhet from Tuesday onwards and bring heavy rainfall over the region and cause rainfall in Assam and Mizoram states of India.

Meanwhile, there is widespread devastation due to the cyclonic storm Rimli in the coastal areas. Many houses have been destroyed and displaced. Embankments have been breached due to the rising water levels by 5 to 6 feet, inundating one village after another. The electricity supply has been disrupted in many areas. Communications have been disrupted in several districts. At least 12 people have died in the six coastal districts. These districts are: Khulna, Satkhira, Barisal, Patuakhali, Bhola, and Chittagong.
