G-7 Threatens Severe Action Against Iran

The world's seven richest countries have gathered in Italy for a three-day G-7 summit. On Friday, the leaders of the alliance warned Iran against advancing its nuclear enrichment program. They also stated that the G-7 would take severe action against Iran if it transfers ballistic missiles to Russia.

In a statement, the G-7 said, "We call on Tehran to cease and reverse nuclear escalation and to halt uranium enrichment activities."

A report by the United Nations' nuclear watchdog on Thursday mentioned that Iran has installed additional uranium enrichment centrifuges at its Fordow site and has started installing others. The country is now enriching uranium up to 60 percent purity.

The G-7 stated that Iran must ensure its nuclear program is peaceful. However, Iran has long maintained that its nuclear program is solely for peaceful purposes.

The alliance claims that Iran has finalized a deal to send ballistic missiles to Russia. Warning of the consequences, the G-7 said that aiding Russia in its war against Ukraine would have dire repercussions
