South Africa Sweats to Secure Victory Against Sri Lanka
In a challenging match on Nassau County's drop-in pitch, Sri Lanka was bowled out for just 77 runs by South Africa's pace attack. The erratic bounce and slowing pitch made timing difficult for the Lankan batsmen. Despite the small target, the Proteas also struggled while chasing, ultimately achieving the victory with considerable effort.
On Monday, June 3, South Africa defeated Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in New York. Batting first, Sri Lanka collapsed to 77 all out in 19.1 overs due to Anrich Nortje's devastating bowling. South Africa reached the target with 22 balls to spare.
Chasing 78 runs, the Proteas lost Reeza Hendricks early, at just 10 runs, to the slingy action of Thushara and Pathirana. At 23 runs, captain Markram also fell, scoring 12 runs off 14 balls before being dismissed by Shanaka.
Tristan Stubbs and Quinton de Kock then formed a partnership of 28 runs off 39 balls. The partnership ended when de Kock was out for 20 runs off 27 balls, leaving South Africa at 53/3 in 10.5 overs. Stubbs followed soon after, scoring 13 runs from 28 balls.
In the end, Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller secured the victory for South Africa. Klaasen scored 19 runs off 22 balls, while Miller remained unbeaten with 6 runs off 6 balls.
For Sri Lanka, Hasaranga took 2 wickets for 22 runs, while Shanaka and Thushara each took one wicket.
