Eid ul-Adha Date Announced in Saudi Arabia

The moon marking the beginning of the holy month of Dhul-Hijjah was sighted in Saudi Arabia on Thursday, June 6. Consequently, the first day of Dhul-Hijjah will be on June 7, and Eid ul-Adha will be celebrated in the country on June 16.

This information was reported by Gulf News, a Middle Eastern news outlet, and confirmed by the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia on Thursday evening.

According to the report, since the moon of Dhul-Hijjah has been sighted, the holy day of Arafah will be observed on June 15, followed by the celebration of Eid ul-Adha (the Feast of Sacrifice) on June 16.

The Islamic calendar is lunar, and the beginning of each of the 12 months is determined by the sighting of the moon. The sighting of the moon in Dhul-Hijjah sets the dates for Hajj and Eid ul-Adha. Eid ul-Adha is observed on the 10th day of Dhul-Hijjah, while the Day of Arafah falls on the 9th day of the same month.

Eid ul-Adha is the second major festival for Muslims, symbolizing sacrifice. On this day, Muslims around the world perform the ritual of animal sacrifice. Additionally, on the Day of Arafah, Muslims participating in Hajj gather in the plain of Arafat, located outside Mecca.
